We will be building a new wonder of the world each week.
Week1: Pyramid at Chichen Itza: Yucatan Peninsula Mexico: The name “Chichen Itza” literally means at the edge of the Itza’s well. The Itza’s were an ethnic group that were settled in Yucatan before the Spanish conquest.
Chichén Itzá, the most famous Mayan temple city, served as the political and economic center of the Mayan civilization. Its various structures – the pyramid of Kukulkan, the Temple of Chac Mool, the Hall of the Thousand Pillars, and the Playing Field of the Prisoners – can still be seen today and are demonstrative of an extraordinary commitment to architectural space and composition. The pyramid itself was the last, and arguably the greatest, of all Mayan temple.

He ordered that a single strong wall be built with thousands of lookout towers where soldiers could guard and protect his empire.

It sits near the Niger River on the edge of the Sahara Desert. Caravans of tradesmen traveling by camel stopped in Timbuktu to get water and food as they traveled.
